Tartu amongst top 1% in biology and biochemistry

The University of Tartu has again made it onto an international list of elite research institutions in up-and-coming fields.

According to Toivo Maimets, a professor at the Molecular and Cellular Biology Institute at Tartu, said the news was gratifying but not unexpected, noting that Tartu had invested heavily into infrastructure, curricula and human resources.
"Retaining our position will depend on how much we are able to invest in people and keep their confidence high so that Tartu will continue to be a place for top-caliber research," Maimets said.
Thomson Reuters (formerly ISI) Web of Knowledge is today's premier research platform for information in the sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities.
Tartu has previously been listed in the top 1% in the ESI database in chemistry, clinical medicine, animal and plant research, environmental sciences, ecology, social sciences, material sciences and geography.
