Coming to Estonia...
I chose Estonia first of all because it was the only country in Europe that offered a full MA programme in Semiotics taught in English. I did not have any suggestions from my former professors or friends for they were not aware of this program. Therefore, I searched for it by myself, mainly using the internet. My reseach about semiotics programmes offered in Estonia started during 2009.

Before coming here...
Honestly, I did not know much about the country before my arrival in Estonia. I did know about Yuri Lotman and this was pretty much about it.

Student life in Estonia...
Coming from a massive university (University of Rome “La Sapienza”) I can definitely say that there are big differences between the two. First of all, examination system is quite different. In Italy you have much more oral examinations and few essays two write. The amount of people in class is far more less here and therefore it’s easy to follow the lessons and participate in seminars. Of course, it’s easier to create youe friends network and be in personal contact with your own professors. University system here seems to be less hierarchic and “formal”.

Studying in Estonia...
Well, first of all, to be among the first internationals that enrolled in the new MA in semiotics and eventually be the first international students who get the whole MA in semiotics at the University of Tartu. So far I did very well with my exams and I am very interested in the topic I’m dealing with for my MA thesis. I also managed to publish one of my papers in the last issue of the semiotic journal “Hortus Semioticus”. Finally, I wrote some poems about the city of Tartu that become quite popular among the Facebook community of international students of Tartu. One of them has been published on the university bookmark last year.

The best things for me...
To put it straight, I am happy here. I am very satisafied about what I do and what I study and this is the best thing that can happen in life: be happy!

Studying in Estonia...
In a nutshell, that is better and more convenient to be here. The city is cosy, cute and has got a great soul. So it’s a good place for students.

My degree programme...
Semiotics – Nature – Culture – Signs – Mark – Lotman – Uexkull – umwelt –semiosphere – active

While being away from my home country, I miss the most...
The sun, the food, my family.

Studying is in Estonia is an international experience...
I believe that studying abroad is a crucial experience for personal formation of the individual. Everyone should do it, at least once in their lives. Discovering new places, novel ways of life, amazing languages cannot but enrich yourself

My future plans...
I’m thinking to continue my studies at PhD level here in Tartu.

The last thing I want to say...
Vieni a Tartu: è un posto speciale!
