Estonian Government scholarship programme for the Republic of Hungary for the academic year 2012-2013

In accordance with the Working Plan on Co-operation between the Ministry of National Resources of Hungary and the Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Estonia, Archimedes Foundation takes great pleasure in offering Estonian state scholarships for students, lecturers and researchers of higher education and research institutions of Hungary for the academic year 2012-2013:

1.    Long-term scholarships for Bachelor, Master and Doctoral study visits at public higher education institutions (duration of studies 1 to 10 month per person). The total duration cannot exceed 20 months;
2.    Scholarships for the Estonian language and culture summer courses;
3.    Scholarships for university lectors and researchers for study and lecturing visits to Estonian higher education and research institutions (quota – 10 days)
4.    Long-term scholarships for university lectors and researchers for study and lecturing visits to Estonian higher education and research institutions. The total duration of visits cannot exceed 4 month.  

Long-term scholarships are granted for period of 1-10 months. The period of a short-term visit for university staff may last up to 21 days and a long-term visit more than 21 days. The study or research visits must take place from September 2012 to July 2013. Summer courses in the Estonian language are held at the University of Tartu or at the Tallinn University from July to August 2012.  The scholarships are intended for citizens of Hungary studying or working at the institutions of their home country.


Description of the scholarship (not including the summer courses):

- the scholarship is open to students from all fields of studies;

- the study or research visits must take place from September 2012 to July 2013;

- the scholarships are intended for researchers or exchange students (this means the students must be enrolled and actively studying in an institution of their home country at the time of application and at the time of the scholarship’s starting date) and exchange students are not required to sit entrance examinations;

- scholarships entitle the exchange students to exemption from tuition fees at PUBLIC higher institutions of Estonia;

- the scholarship does not lead to the awarding of a degree from the Estonian institution. However, credits awarded during the scholarship MAY count towards the study undertaken in the home country (applicants should check with their home institution). In exceptional cases the scholarship can be awarded to a student in degree-studies but in that case it is important to keep in mind that the student this scholarship will not cover the tuition fee to pay the tuition fees;

- the Estonian Party shall provide a total maintenance payment of:
•    290 euros per month for bachelor and master’s students;
•    385 euros per month for doctoral students;
•    45 euros per day for university lecturers and researchers on short-term visits;
•    385 euros per month for university lecturers and researchers on long-term visits;


- recipients pay their own travel expenses to Estonia and back;

- the scholarship is meant to cover the living expenses (to include accommodation) of only one person; any additional financial support for accompanying members of the family is not available;

- this scholarship cannot be coupled with another grant or scholarship that covers the same expenses;

- the scholarship is tax free. Scholarships are granted by the Estonian Ministry of Education and Research.


Description of the summer course scholarship:

- summer courses in the Estonian language are held at the University of Tartu or at the Tallinn University from July to August 2012.

- the scholarship is open to students from all fields of studies;

- the offered scholarship covers:
•    25 euros per day for participants of the summer courses;
•    tuition fees for summer courses;


- recipients pay their own travel expenses to Estonia and back;

- the scholarship is meant to cover the living expenses (to include accommodation) of only one person; any additional financial support for accompanying members of the family is not available;

- the scholarship is tax free. Scholarships are granted by the Estonian Ministry of Education and Research.


Applicants to all the above mentioned scholarships must submit:  

1.    Application form;
2.    Curriculum Vitae;
3.    A letter of recommendation;
4.    Certification of student’s (or university staff’s) status at home institution;
5.    Detailed working plan (except applicants for summer courses);
6.    Certified copy of the university diploma with transcripts (except applicants for summer courses);
7.    Official letter of invitation from the proposed host institution in Estonia (except applicants for summer courses) (when asking for the letter of invitation applicants are requested to point out that they are applying for a scholarship award under an international bilateral agreement);
8.    Application forms for summer courses (form of Tartu University or form of Tallinn University).


Application procedure and deadline:

All the documents must be written in or translated into English. The application form and all the required additional documents should be completed in two (2) identical sets (one original set and one copy of the original set). Each of the two sets must be put into plastic sheet or envelope. Any incomplete applications or applications handed in after the deadline cannot be taken into consideration. Application documents shall not be returned. Archimedes Foundation accepts only these applications that are officially and in due time nominated by the relevant authorities.

NB! Candidates need to apply through their local authorities in the country of their citizenship (even if they currently reside in another country), who will determine the deadline for submitting the applications.

The local authorities shall then forward the selected applications to the Archimedes foundation to arrive no later than the 1st of May 2012 (date as per postmark). The final decision on the award rests with Estonian Party.
