Tallinn University is the largest university of humanities in Tallinn and the third biggest public university in Estonia. It is acknowledged both locally and internationally for its role as a centre for science and education. We have around 7500 students (with 9,5 % of them international) , and over 800 employees, including over 400 researchers and lecturers.
Wishing to contribute more to the society, we have set a goal to become the promoter of intelligent lifestyle in Estonia. We interpret intelligent lifestyle as making research-based decisions in order to improve the society in general and the well-being of its citizens.
In the past 10 years, Tallinn University has merged a number of study and research institutions. This has significantly widened the scope of the responsibility the university holds, starting from teacher education and ending with choreography.
Our five interdisciplinary focus fields are educational innovation, digital and media culture, cultural competences, healthy and sustainable lifestyle and society and open governance.
From 1st September 2015 each focus field is represented by a separate School, wherein the sixth School supports the rest with digital technologies and analytics. We also have two regional colleges, one in Rakvere and the other in Haapsalu.
Given the new trends in higher education, we also value internationalisation. One in ten academic staff members comes from abroad, we increase the number of foreign students and our contribution to international research yearly.
Tallinn University is a partner in 14 European Union regional programmes, and a coordinator to one of them - Learning Layers. We also coordinate and partner the European Union frame programme Horizon 2020. We have contracts with 55 partner universities from 30 countries and over 400 Erasmus+ partnerships, we are members of five international higher education networks and our researchers and academic staff participate actively in their professional networks.
Tallinn University offers a number of opportunities for international students from around the world to apply for our English-based degree programmes, exchange studies and regular courses. There are 131 programmes to choose from, including 6 BA, 12 MA and 14 PhD programmes taught English.
